Twosix Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 In the market for a used aluminium boat, what areas need special attention when checking it over?
wizza Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 hi two six flexing of bottom when running thru chop leads to cracks so check that in atest run with bare feet if you are talking about a smallish boat.with bigger boats can often get electrolysis from amateur wiring of extras.cheers wizza
Day's Fishin Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Look for pitting usually means that the boat has been used in salt water and not washed down after use. The aluminium is just about impossible to weld if this happens as it blows apart. Fill the boat with water and check that there is no leaks. If the boat is on a trailer check where the rollers sit as this is where the boat cops a bashin on the road and tends to weak the alloy. They should be on skids not rollers so as to give an over all support. Regards Jeff
