It seemed like a good idea at the time......

Hi Raiders,

Merry Xmas and I hope you all got the bits of gear you wanted off Santa. I did and one of those bits was a bait pump - I really liked the idea of being able to pump fresh nippers whenever I wanted to and although I have been doing pretty well on my boat lately I love beach fishing and fancied turning those nippers into tasty whiting.

Anyway my mate had told me he saw someone pumping loads of nippers at The Basin. I had a free day today with the wife at work and my kids out shopping do I thought I would kill two birds with one stone by walking there by the Basin Track from West Head to get my nippers and walk off my Xmas excesses at the same time.

Walking down was the easy bit. Pumping the nippers was good fun and in about 90 mins I had enough in my livebait bucket. I put some cool water in with them and a little sand to make them feel at home. The walk back was like tackling the north face of the Eiger!!! I class myself as relatively fit but I was in bits by the time I reached my car again! Fortunately the nippers survived the ordeal and I now plan to put them to good use at narabbeen.

The moral of this story - The Basin is a great place to pump nippers but take my advise and take the ferry over or go in your boat. I am now off to a servo to buy a few gallons of liquids and rehydrate.

A knackered Dave

I used to walk those tracks as a teenager. My parents encouraged it because I was off to bed at 7pm after a day of that. I wouldn't even try it now with my middle age paunch lol
