took the tinnie out in the georges last friday night.

Left the morsehead rd ramp at oatley at about 10.30pm.

Headed to to como train bridge and anchored.

The sounder was full of fish like i've never seen before but we werent getting even a nibble.

Tried squid, prawns, pilchards and plastics, but got nothing, not a single bite.

We stayed there for 3 or so hours and decided to try elsewhere.

We stopped at one of our favourite spots always good for some nice whiting.

Rigged up some squid and pillies and got them in the water and then started flicking some gulp 3 inch shrimp around.

We had been there for about 10 or so mins and by this time im starting to get a bit disheartened by the lack of any bites at all.

When all of a sudden, bang,

I wasnt sure what it was but i knew it was something decent.

After a short fight it was a great sight to see colour and spot my first jew.

Not a big fella, only 50cm odd but a jew never the less.

Sufice to say there was a lot of high fiving and yee-haaing in the boat, lol.

On a side note there was something massive near our boat that night.

Just before we got the jewy there was an almighty kasplash, about 20 feet from the boat.

I dont know what it was but it was huge, easily larger then a man.

Then about 15 mins later the same thing did 2 or 3 porpoises making a huge splash everytime it landed.

What the hell would it have been??

A dolphin maybe?

A few years ago, I saw a bull shark (about 8 foot long) jumping to the east of Como Bridge. Possibly the same happening, as they round up the schools of mullet then swim up quickly from underneath to grab one and sometimes crash through the surface.

Hi bede just replying back in regards to the big splash. I heard the same thing last week when I was fishing the George's and it happened around 2am massive splash sounded like a big beakie crashing down after trying to spit the hooks out . But sounded louder cause it was dead quiet and calm. Was fishing around como to , bull shark perhaps? Or the lochness monster hehehe cheers boys

yeah i reckon you guys are right, bull shark probably.

As you say mrbroadbill, it sounded so loud because its so quiet on the water in the AM hours.

We actually shit ourselves a bit it was that big.

We both automatically sat straight down and looked at each other wide mouthed saying "what the .... was that!"

I have never seen so much fish on the sounder that night.

It was a constant stream.

All in the middle to upper water column.

I reckon whatever it was is hunting them.

But yeah the jewy was grouse.

Looks like theres quite a few soapys in the georges at the moment.

Cant wait to get some nice fresh squid and poddys and chase some more.
