cc6264 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Just noticed the other day my temprature would climb dramatically as soon as you applied throttle. Eg go from idling out of the ramp temp sits around 10 (on guage), go to 3000 rpm - temp moves to around 17. Go to WOT and temp moves to 25 and stays there. Hold the revs and the temp holds as well. Back off and so does temp. Is this normal? Cheers Craig
chrisg Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 No not really normal. Sounds like you have a thermostat stuck open (possibly a poppet valve). Once temp is reached it should drop at high rpm - your not getting to proper temp at idle form the sounds of it. Sounds like a cooling system service - pump, thermostats and poppet operation check - is in need. C.
REBSS Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 As above a service on the cooling system should fix the problem.
a boat Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi, that engine, if operating as designed, is meant to run hotter at low speed and this is done via the thermos and pressure value. Gauges are not accurate and for its technology this engine had a very clever warning system for overheat where it goes into SAFE mode so if you are not getting the horn, light and limp mode she is not overheating, but if the water pump and cooling system has not been serviced in the last few years get it done by someone who knows what they are doing and use genuine parts. Cheers, Huey.
cc6264 Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Thanks Guys. Thought something was amiss. Have booked it in for a service down here as I don't have the time to take it to Huey. Now to try and catch a kingfish.......when I get the boat back! Cheers Craig
