Greg bowden Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Hi Raiders On Sunday I took a work mate and his brother out for a troll in the hope of some small black marlin action. We left Broken Bay at 6am and headed NE to the Fad off Macmasters beach, we picked up a dollie on the troll just as we made our first pass, after 45 mins of bait fishing with no luck we trolled south to the fad east of Barrenjoey ,Water was 21.5 deg, no luck at the fad or fish traps, we head back in and drifted at the 70m mark for some nice flatties, just then my mate yells "Marlin"and as we turned looking towards Palm beach a marlin was free jumping , we thought that would be the last of it so we moved to the 50 m mark and drifted there, again a marlin came up free jumping we packed up the flattie gear and put some lures out and headed to where we spotted it, after trolling the Avalon , palm beach area for about 1.5 hrs we saw it free jump once more but no hook ups , there were flying fish in the area ,the last marlin we saw was in 32 m of water, they were all small blacks, the water temp off palm beach was 22.5 deg. Was a great to see and goes to show you don't always need to travel out wide to be in the same area as them.
Dangas Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Awesome thanks for the heads up. There have plenty of juvenile blackies being caught further north over the last few weeks. All within short distances from the coast. Seems like they have reached sydney.
