Sydney marlin - 7th January 2013 - photo added

Hi guys... While I have been kicking back in Narooma the fishing has continued to improve off Sydney with warmer currents pushing in & bait holding. Over the first week of this new year I had many reports of marlin seen with the odd fish caught. These fish ranged from small blacks in 30 meters of water to 120kg striped marlin on the shelf, a few dolphin fish & a large short billed spearfish. We heard a rumor that one boat found a honey hole but only managed 1 fish from 12 bites but still a fantasic start for the Sydney season!.
We only returned from the coast on the weekend as we had a half day charter booked for today with 5 guys from France.. eager to catch anything they were losing faith with 12 o'clock approaching.
However in 40 fathoms we soon we had a nice fish all over the Black Bart on the long corner only to have him shy off after tailing for 30 seconds...it didn't take long for him to have a second look and we soon set the hooks & the fun began. All first time anglers & with the fish deciding he was heading for the shelf I passed the rod to the closest guy who I'm sure still wasn't sure what was going on. After 30 minutes a lot of chaos & some impressive jumps we tagged a lovely 65kg striped marlin & had him swimming beside the boat for some photos. With the lure removed the guys swam the fish through the back door & released him to fight another day. The mood on board had now changed with 5 Frenchman bursting into song as we came through the heads.

It was a lovely day on the water with 10knt winds & 21.7 degree water in close. We heard a few other fish raised but there were only a few boats out, hopefully we will hear more reports.
Don't forget we have plenty of dates available for charters off Sydney before we head to Port Stephens...it's going to be a bumper season!!

Cheers
