Murphdog
Hi All Got up at 4am this morning and hit middle harbour, tinnie in water by 4.30am and yakka on the line under the spit bridge at 4.45am. The purpose of today's session, in fact my last 3 sessions has been to catch squid, couldn't help pulling up just 1 yakka....they were everywhere. Got to the first of 4 kelpie areas I was targeting and BANG!!!Good size souther calamari reluctantly heading for my net.....disaster....he got off. Gutted, I threw the jig back t the same spot and BANG second chance draw, landed a good size calamari and decorated the boat with ink, who cares?! Pretty sure the break brought was due old fashion luck, a much slower retrieve and wait after casting, I normally count to ten in 3M of water but this time I counted to 15. Was keen to catch more squid but just couldn't resist baiting up a live one and moving him to his new house around quarantine, it was dead. Lots of boats, plenty of swell & chop and one very healthy live bait. Tried a couple of marketr for zip. The squid died so I cut him up for strips and slow trolled them over a well know king haunt, BANG!!!! Felt small at first and then turned mean. Our tussle lasted for about 30seconds, busted off on the reef and I pulled up someone else's rig as well....no Kingy, oh well good on him. Not productive but great fun, love this city. Paul
Well done. Better to get a tattoo on the boat than on your face

Paul
Cheers Paul, gee it felt good getting that squid on board! Yeah it's great feeling landing your first one and a huge sense of achievement when you can start landing them regularly. Check this out for some more squidding tips. Got me going from frustration to jubilation as all my mates were catching squid at the start while I was getting little to nothing. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=66861 Cheers Paul Edited January 10, 2013 by Paul
BMac
Mate, I hit the same spots as you at the same times this morning. I was in the Blue Centre console Formosa. It was slow going at Q so headed over to Rose Bay. Surface action everywhere with some big salmon about. No kings = angry at work desk!!!!
