Transducer out of water

Hi all

I have finally gotten around to installing my HDS 7, christmas present to myself.

It all appears to work fine however the sonar reads a heap of vertical stripes.

Is this a normal reading out of water?

Obviously I dont expect it to mark fish in the garage but just curious if this is normal?

Wont be in the water till Sat and would rather resolve any issues now.

P.S. I have sleected the correct transducer.

One of the big things they reccomend is to NOT have it on out of water. It should be switched on and off after you launch and before you retrieve. Not sure what it does to the unit but its what they say should be done. We have always done this and never had an issue

Have only switched it on for a minute at a time, guess ill find out saturday.

Thats normal to get eractic readings while out of the water. If you place your ear near it you can also hear it pulsating which is a good indication it is working ok. Having it on for a minute here or there wouldnt hurt it so dont worry to much

Didnt get out on my boat to test this weekend so just want to be confident there will be no issues with it next week.

It will heat the transducer up and eventually burn it out. cheers Ron.
