oldsalty
Anyone have any knowledge of these areas??? Im thinking about spending a bit of time in a new area and looking for a place with good fishing, rock/beach/estuary and offshore too, spearing/snorkling, and good surfing. How is the fishing up there these days? I'm pretty sure the Richmond river is still commercially fished but how does the area/coast in general compare to somewhere like Sydney that although is heavily populated, has alot of options available. Id like to get out of the city but not somewhere to quiet, anywhere in OZ is fine but gotta be warm, top end is great but i need to get in the water regularly,if you go too far north the waves stop., ive done the West coast , so im thinking Northern rivers? any info aprreciated, Regards. Day's Fishin
Opposite the old baths in the channel for some great bream catches. Use nippers, worms or mullet gut. Use a sounder to find the deep holes to fish of a night. Dusky flathead and whiting also taken drifting over the shallows. Regards Jeff
loxo
I just spent 10 days up in Yamba over christmas and there was fish everywhere in the river. Flathead, whiting, bream the odd flounder and unfortunately loads of stingrays. Also saw several school jews being cleaned at some of the ramps. We caught fish every session, varying degrees of success even when we just fished off the caravan parks jetty like everyone else. (the young bloke just had to fish everyday ) The upside for you is there are 5 or 6 quality surf beaches right at your door step to go with the fishing. If you have a boat I reckon you could explore forever. Highlight of the trip was fishing from the jetty and having a pod of dolphins come right up to us and smash a school of fish on the surface. Close enough that we could have touched them with the tips of our rods several times. Was an awesome sight, unfortunately after a decent start (2 keeper bream in the esky) we didn't get a single bite once the dolphins went through! A couple of pubs that were very busy, spent my birthday on the 30th at the old pub on the cliff with live music plenty of people ect. I'm sure it probaby quietens down during winter but plenty of restaurants, local clubs with courtesy buses and if you're an outdoors man heaps to do.
