Jewhunter
We are getting hammered on the Tweed here ATM. Winds gusting over 100kmh, over 150mm of rain so far & it's not going to ease up in a hurry with 300mm expected overnight & tomorrow. 2 trees uprooted in my yard so far. Ex tropical cyclone Oswald doesn't look like an "ex" cyclone I can tell ya!! Time for a flood party. Cheers, Grant.

nbdshroom
Hope those trees didn't do much damage. A few years back, one of the trees in the backyard uprooted and completely felled. Luckily the damage was minimum - dents in the fence and roof of workshop and broken clothesline. It was a miracle it missed the house since the tree was huge (about 2 m in circumference at the base of the trunk and probably about 20-30 m high). The tree had branches hanging over my bedroom too so it could have been bad. Edited January 27, 2013 by nbdshroom

Jewhunter
Tweed river peaking around 4.2mtrs as I type. High tide at midday could be a worry if the rain doesn't ease off. So far we've copped 380mm in the last 48hrs. The wind hasn't stopped. It's been a wild old night!! Cheers, Grant.
mrsswordfisherman
Stay safe Grant and family I was in Brissie last weekend for a weekend meeting and speaking to one of my colleagues up in Qld a few mins ago it sounds bad. Her hospital is leaking and their power goes on and off but the generators are holding up so far. Post some pics up for us Grant
Jewhunter
Snapped these on the Iphone. We've just got the power back on. Backyard sees the palms sideways. This side of those palms there is a fence somewhere! There are 1mtr pressure waves on the river as the wind is howling against the water flow. Front yard sees the shed about 600mm underwater. I can't see where my little tinny is. Hopefully find it in the neighbours yard! House is high & dry. We've been through slightly bigger floods but I have never seen such destructive winds. It's like being in a full blown cyclone. Glad the hospital is holding up Donna. Brissy has been smashed & the river there won't peak until tonight. 3 people confirmed dead so far with more missing. It's a bloody mess from Bunderburg all the way down to Coffs Harbour. Let's pray that more lives aren't lost. Cheers, Grant.

Never been through one that big so this is going to get interesting. Cheers, Grant.

arpie
Oh no! As Donna say, stay SAFE! Do the smart thing. Hope the house stays high & dry & you've obviously moved the vehicles to higher ground too. All my best to you all Roberta & Keith
Catchin Jack
Well we thought we'd be doing storm damage by now but all we've had so far today has been a structure fire and it was gutted even with heavy rain.

Jewhunter
Thanks for the kind thoughts all. The Tweed peaked at 4.8 mtrs. It was bloody ugly & really messy due to all the debri caused by the wind. All good here. House stayed dry as expected. Just a BIG cleanup for the next couple of days. My thoughts now are with the residents of Maclean, Harwood & Grafton. Forced evacuations are in place & the rivers there will peak tonight. Good luck to those residents. I hope your homes stay dry & you stay safe. Cheers, Grant.
arpie
Good to know you are out of any immediate danger Grant. Yes, our hearts go out to all the affected communities. Some only just recovering from the '11 floods! cheers Roberta Paul (of marlin from yak fame thread) bought a 1000L/min pump after he sustained water damage in '11 (he lives really close to the Brisbane River and with lots of help in '11, restricted the damage last time to floor coverings mainly .....) and the pump saved the day yesterday! The water rose so quickly, he was 'playing with the pump' just testing it to make sure it worked ....... when he noticed the water was coming in fast!! Neighbours rallied around to help as well. Part of the water this time was run-off caused by modifications that other neighbours had done to THEIR place (with council approval) that effectively re-routed even more water into Paul's place! Stewy wants me to move back to Sydney so I can show him how to catch more fish! Clean up almost done here. Believe it or not I mowed the front today that was completely under water just a few days ago. Slinky actually offerd to drive down here from the Gold Coast to help me clean up.
