arpie
Hi Lachlan I am usually in my yak when I chase them - they are all over the sand flats that surround most of the islands!! If you put up google maps & zoom in on Forster & Tuncurry & follow the 'inside' of the lake (particularly around The Keys and Green Point) you will be able to identify lots of shallows that should produce whiting on surface lures. Green Point would probably be the best bet - where the Pro Fishermen anchor up their boats. The bay where the boats are moored in The Keys is also worth a shot & you'll probably get bream as bycatch. This post has a pretty comprehensive set of instructions on catching whiting on surface lures. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=67297&hl Just vary the retrieve until you get the hits - they will start smacking at it & you will see disturbance at the rear of your lures. KEEP them MOVING! Whiting prefer to chase the lures. As the tide falls, other areas will be more shallow - so do some footwork & you'll find some good spots! Roberta Over in Tuncurry, down the end of Bay St (backing on to Ohmas Bay) you should be able to get a few too.
