Rigging up for jigging

Easiest way I go braid albright to leader generally put on about 1.5m of leader then uni knot on the knife jig. Defending on what type of jig I use I either tide direct to the O right (the solid one that's on the cord not the split ring) but I've also got some cheap jigs that don't use split rings do I just tie direct to the jig. I usually use a long leader because if you get smashed by jackets ur leader will get short pretty quick so its easier than having to tie a new leader on

Damn ! That is alot of jigs, I've got half that amount but most d mine are cheap eebay ones, first outing I lost 4 jigs on 5 drops haha so pretty glad they only cost me 4 bucks each!

How much were they and where'd u get em? Yours have the solid ring so definately tie to that less chance of failure if you avoid the split ring altogether

A lot of experienced jiggers use a ver long mono leader, ie 3-4 m. It puts a bit of stretch in the system,

hides the more visible braid from the fish and gives you a warning as to when the jig is near the boat.

Also I'd use a heavy leader, ie 80-100lbs.

They actually have split rings, can I tie straight onto the split ring?

Fishingphase

Tie direct to the solid ring not the slit ring. The solid ring is attatched to the hook. And the split ring can wear through your leader.

Thats heaps of jigs. Did you get them at a good price ? Ive been jigging for kings for a few years and have never had that many. No Reds or Pinks ?

I know alot of peaople on this site talk about losing jigs to leatherjackets but I personally have not lost many jigs to jackets at all.

Well I hope I don't encounter any leatherjackets either.

Ah yes I see what you mean now by the solid ring, I never really had a good look at them.

I go 3 metre double/bimini to 2-3 metres of leader (which ever size you prefer) on a reverse or normal albright down to a crimped looped with snap swivel.

I dont tie jigs on, plus metal on metal makes more noise for the kingy : )

From what I've ready from mcgills write ups about kings they tend to shy away from noisy lures and are pretty good at spotting them as fakes, if it works for you though no worries, how long does it take to recrimp and snap swivel a new jig on after it's been chopped off? I can tie a uni in about 15 seconds so pretty efficient, never used a crimper before though

The last 5 seasons ive jigged, its worked fine for me. I chase kingys in the harbour too and the only thing i look for is noisy mooring chains and noisy structure e.g markers such as the cakes. My experience with kings on lures is exactly opposite to what you have read lol. Kingys love noise and commotion, thats why you can bring one up with others, thats why you get them on poppers and butterfly jigs make a racket when being ripped through the water, only we cant hear it. While I can tie a uni, i wouldnt be using that on a double otherwise you end up with an additional loop of main line which you cant cut off otherwise you have lost the double.

Crimping is just as quick, plus with a snap swivel i can change jig sizes depending on current.

hope this helps.
