chriseels2010
Hi everyone, I would like to share my report from this morning. Armed with my saragosa 18000 with 70 pound leader and sienna 2500 with 6 pound leader, I started the day with a 5am wakeup and quick drive to a pier just south of Watsons bay. First hookup on the 6 pound rod was something fairly big which reefed me...damn. Ten minutes later I hooked onto a nice pike which I brought in and used as live bait on the big rod. I threw the pike out under a float and waited 20 minutes and saw the float bop up and down, 30 seconds later, I'm on and it's BIG. It was peeling line off me fast so I quickly tightened it to full pressure and it started to slow down. After a short battle of about one minute I saw the yellow flash and managed swim it to shallow water where I grabbed its tail. Though it was a short battle due to my heavy gear (some may consider 50lb mainline and 70 leader overkill), my first ever kingie will never be forgotten. Its power was unprecedented and should be respected. Thanks all, Chris

fisholb
congrats on your 1st kingfish mate...well done...its better to use heavy gear if you are targeting kingfish...specially when using a live bait and landbased too...
leatherjacket
Well done buddy! Interesting to hear it took on a whole pike. Cheers, Andrew
mattyg_16
Nice King. I don't think the set up is overkill, I would not go any lighter then 40lb main line when chasing kings because they are dirty fighters. Matt

Piss'n'Broke
Nice king there mate, looks very fat indeed & well feed! Ive had a 65cm king eat a 27cm pike I used for live bait once, took the king almost 5mins to get it down before the reel started screaming. Think it must have been choking on the pike. chriseels2010
Haha I noticed the pike panicking/ getting attacked as the float was going bopping up and down. This kingie was actually foul hooked in its side - so even more lucky i guess

jim77
Well done mate. That is a good size to open your account with, and an even better effort considering it was land based. As to your gear - that's not heavy :-) for kingies go big otherwise you will get your ar$e kicked!

T jack
Nice king. The setup is spot on in my book. You can even have your hands full with 80 pound when there is structure around. Pike is a very good live bait for kings.
Aqua Naut
Great fish...very interesting that it took a live pike....well i suppose he may have been very hungry. Might have to throw one out next time on a balloon and try my luck.
