Koalaboi
Hi Everyone, Up early this morning at the computer when a police helicopter flew slowly by searchlight on scouring the coast 200 metres east of my place. Oh no, I thought, someone missing, someone's family up late at night, frantic with worry, sweating on a phone call that would invariably be worse the longer the vigil went...Turned out a 66 year old man was prawning in the channel at The Entrance wearing waders last night. Somehow he fell over and unable to right himself, drowned and was swept out to sea by the outgoing tide which, at the moment, is pretty quick given the tidal difference. I wear waders to fend off pelican itch...but, it makes me think that I may be better off wearing my wetsuit. You have to be careful, especially at night because if you go missing, it's so hard to find you. KB
Jewhunter
Very sad to hear & condolonces to his family. I never wear old style waders prawning or beach fishing for that very reason. If you fall & they fill up your stuffed. Neoprene waders are the way to go. Cheers, Grant.
arpie
.....Neoprene waders are the way to go...... And STILL have a tight belt around your chest, I reckon! I have wading trousers that have a full neoprene band around the waist. No pelican itch, no water getting in, even if I DO go over! The entrance to the Entrance is fast flowing water & once you get up past your thigh in fast flowing water - if the current is strong enough, it is easy to be knocked over. It may be a bit of overkill - but if wearing in inflatable vest, it an be deployed if you get swept in. Condolences to the guys family. Very sadRoberta

Very sad Roberta The only question I would have on that Roberta is the inflatable vest good enough to hold someone up with all that weight? I would say your best chance is to have a buddy with you and not go into fast flowing water by yourself as I understand this poor guy did.
