Yowie
Tried the deep water up from Lilli Pilli early this morning, Mainly little reddies, and other rubbish fish, until the jewie grabbed a pilchard off the bottom about sunrise. The flounder is smallish, but it swallowed ganged hooks and would not have survived. A few fish started splashing about, so I threw a small metal lure into a schools a few times. Had quite a few follows, retrieving the lure at a bit of speed, and managed to hook 2 frigates. Always a bit of fun on light gear. Tried for some jackets, picked up the 2 yellow finned variety, and then the chinaman jackets turned up and ruined the fishing, the smallest was about 10 cms long, could not get a bait past them. Headed for home. Had a look in the calm water along the main channel, as the tide was nearly out. Along the main channel, west of the ballast heap, were hundreds (no exageration) of blackfish but very few over the legal size. Also plenty of undersized bream and a few whiting, some were probably legal. A lot of kelp in patches, probably washed in during the last storm. filthmonger
I got smoked at lilli pilli by something yesterday im hoping wasnt a jew! Was using 8 pound leader with a fresh bit of squid strip that i caught earlier. Went for one massive run then another then just sat there like a dead weight. I could still feel the fish swimming but he couldnt get anymore line off and i couldnt get any in then ping busted me off about half way up the leader. Im hoping it was a little kingy! Are those annoying water skiers still around? Thanks mate Fish mostly morning these days, though years ago, I made the best catches from just before sun down to dark, and sometimes after dark. On a dark night, have caught a couple of jewies on the surface, and during autumn, have heard the bigger ones slapping the surface while chasing the mullet near Lilli Pilli.(this was a few years back now) No water skiers today, though some f**kwit decided to motor between me and the shoreline early. Had the lights on, shone the torch at him, but he still motored near the shoreline, when there was plenty of space on the other side of me. Would like an RPG (rocket propelled grenade) for these situations.
