Novicefisherman
Suggestions on what reel and what lbs braid line? Just brought one, thinking about a shimano 3000 size reel? Would be open to other brands. Price range $200-$
PRED-ATOR
daiwa sol 3000 would be awesome
abecedarian
Depending on what you want to do but I'd be confident that you'd be disappointed by the sol if you were planning to spin for pelagics, especially bonito. I'd recommend a shimano sustain 3000. Its a higher gear ratio than the sol which makes it easier for high speed retrieves for bonito etc. if you want a slower retrieve, just wind slower. I have a twin power 4000 and I even find that hard to get enough lure speed for the Bonnie's at times.
Novicefisherman
It will be for a bit of bait fishing for drummer and spinning for the odd bonito or salmon off the rocks. Used off the beach as a light beach rod. It would be good if the reel had 2 spools. Mono for the drummer and braid for spinning.
hottyscotty
I'd go with the sol as well
abecedarian
If you're spinning for Bonnie's, definitely go for a faster retrieve speed. 6:1 or there about is a good ratio. If you go for a slower retrieve rate like that on a Sol I think you'll regret it.
aidanhoh
I would go for the Stradic FJ. I don't have a 3000 size but the 5000 I have has been brilliant.
Wriggler1
shimano rarenium 4000 or 5000. a lot lighter than most reels of the equivalent size and has the two spools which would suit you well
Novicefisherman
Decisions decisions decisions. i think i will go with the shimano rarenium 4000 as my other reels are shimano's. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
