Hi raiders,

I would like to use live baits, but tried a few times and found it is as hard as catching fish.

Can anyone kindly teach me here a few tips of catching live baits, such as yakkas.

I do not have a boat, even not proper gear to you guys standard, but I am planning to get some basics to start the fun of fishing.

Would a bait trap an effective way to catch baits?

Is bait trap legal in NSW?

Thank you for any tips.

Mate I would forget the trap, go to your local wharf, burley with some mashed bread or bits from a cheap tin of cat food and fish a small piece of piece of pillie or squid on a hand line. Tell me where you are going and I will tell u some good spots

Thank you Dave,

I am planing to go to Berowra Waters or Brooklyn this weekend or sometime next week with my boy.

I am an absolute beginner but have some basic cheap gear, do not mind to get something inexpensive if you tell me what is needed.

dont need any expensive gear to catch livies. a handline is suffice.

just gotta burley up. when theyre around slow down the burley and throw your line into the burley trail.

you can also use something called a sabiki rig.

Chris,

I don't know the hawkesbury too well but have googled it for you and see that people have picked them up at Brooklyn Wharf. My advice is get there early (I have always found that low light - darkness, morning or evening is best), get that burley going in and you are in with a chance.

I will try to get a couple of sabiki rigs then.

You are right.

I once saw people fish there on the jetty, but did ask, so I have no idea what rigs or burley they used.

Thanks a lot.

I will let you how I go.
