stricko4
Hi Raiders, Friday afternoon saw me down at one of the harbour jetty’s along with the usual crowd. As I arrived a guy was hooked up to a salmon of about 2kg. In his esky was 5 bonito so it looked like fishing was good. My regular offsider was already there with a big leathery in his bucket & after 10 minutes I added one as well. Yellowtail were hard to come by & I guess the bonito that were plentiful & feeding were the cause of the shortage, however we did manage a few & each one was taken either by a bonny or the resident cormorant. Anyway after picking up a bonny myself I was completely smoked by something that took at least 80 -100m of 8lb line. Then my offsider hooks into a good fish which was called for a small kingy. As it came to the surface though it was obvious it wasn’t a kingy. When eventually netted after a spirited 5 minute fight a Samson fish hit the jetty deck. I’ve never seen one caught & not heard of them in the harbour. It went about 60cm. I’ll load up a pick when I work out my phone. Paul

Whatacatch
They do get them in the Harbour but perhaps not as regular as kingies. I caught one a few years ago just inside north head. Also picked one up at Long Reef a few weeks ago. Great fighters and good as sushi I as long as you cut them thinly,
rjc123
They come in from time to time. 60cm is a solid fish! Amberjacks turn up in weird places too... A mate pulled a 50cm amberjack from the pylons of the roseville bridge recently! Cheers, Tom
arpie
Shame you got smoked by the whopper ......... well done on your other catch! I landed a juvenile Samson Fish up here in Wallis Lake a few years back - I didn't know they were in the system! they really DO fight above their weight, too!!Roberta
