koi
Hello all I just spent around 3hrs at Narrabeen lakes trying to catch poddy mullets. The only place I can catch mullet is at northbridge boat ramp. At the ramp its a bit easier because I can use just bring the mullet right in front of me and just try catch them without casting, Still hard for me to catch them at northbridge though. Anyways I was at narrabeen today and can see them all over the place. They always ignore the bread on the hook and just go for the bread that I use for burley. Ive tried almost every way I think. I always use smallest hooks I can buy like size 12 long shanks or those small luderick ones. Methods tried: - I notice they have a go at the floater so I make the hook as close as possible to the floater and put a small piece on the hook. I chuck some bread in to attract them and cast the floater wherever the bread is. This is probably the most easiest way for me to catch them. - I just tie a hook with nothing else. Thread a crust of bread through to act as a floater/burley and have a floating piece of bread on the hook. They all come to it like crazy but I just cant hook them. - Ive tried 2L milk bottles and juice bottles and made sure there invisible. Opera house nets. See through lunch boxes with a hole made on the top. They all come to the bottles and stuff but never get trapped inside or sometimes just totally ignore it. - Put some crumbs in front of me and have and unweighted hook with a bit of bread floating on the top to try hook em. I want to try some live bait at narrabeen lake during the day and only livies I can find are poddies. I see those huge mullet all the time but they just ignore everything. Any info on how to catch those huge mullet to ? Am I using wrong hooks or techniques ? I just dont want to spend alot of time at northbridge and spend couple of hours to catch 3 or 4 mullet and by the time I get to narrabeen lake there not as lively. LungFai
I use the juice bottles and it's never let me down. If they ain't getting trapped in yours try adding a longer tunnel. Or use a clear tube. Now i am not saying you should do this and i don't think you are able to anymore, but back in my younger days the shopping trolleys had a plastic tube that covered the handles. They were great Poddy traps. cork up one side and stuff it with bread, place it at your poddy mullet area and watch as they squeeze in and get stuck, poor little critters don't know how to swim backwards But back to the Juice bottle, grab a second bottle and cut out the big flat panel. Roll it into a tube to match the size of the mouth piece, staple it or glue it together and then attach it to your juice bottle trap with glue or sealy sealant. It should go in 3/4 down the bottle and looks like bottle with a giant straw in it. Place it in your area and burley lightly to attract them. They should swim in and get trapped or get wedged in like sardines
