Krispy !
Heading up to south west rocks in a week or two and haven't been up there before. Going to target the larger predatory fish and don't really know where to start off. Any tips would be appreciated.
Marlin01
Krispy, I'm up there at the moment so I can say there are a few Mackeral around (we got ten today) along with cobia and good bottom fishing. Live bait is extremely hard to find but every slimy you catch will get you a mackeral bite. Grassy middle ground appears to be where the majority of fish are ( mackeral ). This is a general area of reef in 30-35m east of grassy head. Off the jail is a reef in 11 fathoms which has had a few cobes on it. Fish rock had a few wahoo and yellowfin for the trollers. Good luck. Marli

Would pilchards work well as bait up there if I can't get my hands on any slimies? Thanks
arpie
Great info there, Marlin 01, many thanks - I will be staying at the Gaol/Arakoon campsite with a couple of mad yak fishos who are keen to bag a marlin! Grant has already hooked heaps of marlin up there, and has become more intrested in chasing Wahoos more recently after landing a whopper!! However, my Kiwi girlfriend is really keen to hook a marlin! A few yakkers have been hooking (not necessariy landing) marlin on a regular basis at SWR in more recent times. I think the smaller stripeys are hanging around now rather than blacks cheers Roberta

Marlin01
The Mackeral were spotties no Spanish around as of our arrival, current picked up to the north so the water should get better especially with a day of southerly breeze so bait might improve. Caught a few mullet thisarvo interested to see ho they go on the spotties. Stand by :-) Marlin
