Hi all, I'm looking at changing my company's mobile phones form Vfone, and had made mind up to pay the money and move to Telstra but. Optus through a curve ball with some really good pricing.

Any thoughts on Optus reception? We work greater Sydney not rural areas.

Sutherland to central cosst Sydney to the penrith

Optus is still patchy on Central Coast, was with them for many years but seemed to get worse. Have now gone with that new Aldi pre paid and can't fault it so far, at least when I try load a url it actually loads. Unlike Optus that most times takes forever or wont load.

G'day

I jumped ship from Vodafone to Optus about 3 years ago and only lasted 8 months before jumping to Telstra. Since then I can actually make a phone call from within my house. In over 2 years I haven't looked back. Not once

I had optus 3g home phone when I moved here in Glenmore Park for about 3 months b4 they allowed me to break contract due to poor reception previously I was happy with optus for 15 years or more. my mobiles are with vfone and not much chop in this area either.

since changing to Telstra for home line it works but I wouldn't give it a great deal of credit either internet gets very slow at times.

I have been with all of the 3 major carriers at some point. Originally with Telstra then changed to Vodafone because they were significantly cheaper. Lasted with them for about 3 months (pre-paid thankfully) before changing to Optus as Vodafone was crap. Optus was no better, the price was good but the service poor even in Sydney. There are a lot of black spots throughout Sydney on Optus and Vodafone that I noticed and once you got out of the major cities the service dropped off dramatically. Have since moved back to Telstra, their plans are now a lot more competitive compared to 5 years ago. Frankly, I wouldn't ever change again, they may be a little more expensive but the service you get is far superior and the new LTE Internet service is sure quick where it's available.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like my instinct was right. Telstra actually came pretty close on cost to Vodafone, once they did a bill comparison across all the phones but Optus came up with an unlimited call plan for about 1/2 the cost. So it was worth asking the question, but not worth the risk.

Telstra it is.

I orginally was from Melbourne. Everyone there uses Optus. When I moved to Sydney, I discovered that everyone here uses Vodaphone.

I eventually made the switch from Optus (reception wasn't great in Sydney), and went to Vodaphone. I didn't last 4 months on it, it totally sucked. It seems that their plans are so dirt cheap, that everyone is on their network and most likely they don't have the bandwidth\towers to cope with the influx.

So I made a formal complaint with Vodaphone. I then proceed to contact:

http://www.tio.com.au/

I was able to break my contract and switch to Telstra. Never looked back.

I duno about you guys, but I have a mobile phone, to make calls and to recieve 3G\4G. You'd be lucky if you're getting a stable 3G connection on Vodaphone.
