New boat advice

My mate's currently in the market for a new (2nd hand) boat, and, like me, has very little idea of what's on the market. This is what he's after:

  • half cabin
  • at least 100hp (preferably 4 stroke)
  • something not too old
  • max price of $40k

It will be used mainly around Sydney, with the furthest he would probably take it is out to Browns (when the conditions are ok).

He just sold his most recent boat which he had for quite a while, and has been spending countless hours on boatsales. If anyone has an opinion they would like to share please do!

Cheers,
Don

Hi, for only a few grand more than his budget he can get a brand new Savage 585C, a 19 foot deep vee hull with 115HP Evinrude (better than a second hand 4-stroke that can cost the earth to fix), on an ALLOY trailer and best of all with many years warranty. Tell him to go to the Savage boats website and have a look and I would much rather this 19 foot boat BRAND NEW boat than anything second hand of the same size with a 100HP 4-Stroke on it, it would hardly plane with such HP.

I have one in stock too if he would like to view it.

Cheers,

Huey..

I am also for taking the wife when buying your boat. Happy wife - happy life and happy boating. She doesn't whinge when you need to spend money on it as it was her choice ;-)

browns is a big ask in any sub 6m boat
and when look at 5.5 6m boats 100hp isnt going to be enough

a better idea for browns is to make friends with someone with a larger boat who needs a extra crew member to help with fuel
and set your boat up for the majority of the fishing you do.
