brendong
So a few weeks back Coyote, myself and 2 other mates headed off to Fiji for a weeks fishing. Being flathead, bream and bass fisho's we were well outside of our comfort zones but I must say it didn't take too long to switch into big fish mode. (I can see why blue water and GT fishing becomes very addictive) We departed on a Monday and spent the first night in Denaru before getting up the next morning and boarding a 6 seat plane and headed to Kadavu. I must say i didn't expect the mountains and dense forest that we flew over. On arrival just 200 meters from the airport the crew ferried us across to the 51 ft Riv that would be our home for the next 4 days. Given an early start breakfast was layed out for us as soon as we were on deck. Soon after engines were turning and we ventured out. Hot breakky every morning and i must say we ate like kings every day - morning, noon and night. I didn't take long before we hit a patch of Wahoo and Dolly's as we headed out to a sea mount. At the sea mount which is home to hoards of doggies we could only manage a few small pups on jigs. Having trolled up some yellow fin a 5kg livie was sent down and for a fleeting moment i was strapped to a monster dog but he threw the hooks and that was as close as we came to a mega dog i'm afriad. We spent the night in a small estuary where one of the village chiefs came out and was loaded up with the days catch which he took back to share amongst the families. This happened most nights...GT's went back to swim another day though. The next days we headed back out to the sea mount and again struggled on the doggies but again there were plenty of dollies, wahoo and yellow fin to keep us happy. How good is it when this jigged up yellow fin Is turned into this a hour or so later.... Not to mention deep fried Mahi and Wahoo Day 3 and it was GT time the photo's probably say enough Double hook up on GT's was very special too We managed to find dolly's on the troll too Day 4 and more GT's - they were a little harder to come by and the boys were pulling big read bass and a mega cod before hitting pay dirt with a 40kg model....party time... 40kg and the strike was incredible, it looked like the ocean open and up as the Cubera disappeared I managed my PB Hoo on the day too Day 5 and we had to travel back to Denaru a long trip but broken up by some trolling and more GT casting at islands along the way Coyote's PB GT that went 20kg on almost the very last cast of the trip Not far from Denaru Port Before breaky and at night we'd flick around a few plastics on our jew outfits for small gt's, red bass and coral trout Plenty of great scenery from great landscapes, islands and some incredible waves (wished i had my surf board on several occasions) So that's about it....very difficult to leave such a great place and so many awesome fish....plenty of pics that didn't make my post. We've said once in a lifetime but I suspect that it may all happen again one day....one of the boys is putting a video together as we had a go pro on board as did the the crew... Sorry its taken me so long to get something up and again thanks to swordy who helped us with the lure and gear selection.... med76
Nice report, and well done. Bet use had fun... I'm going to port villa next Sunday hope I have the same luck. Good luck i went last christmas, the doggies are insane. I had one rod explode into a million pieces from the pressure on it and one jigging reel destroy itself as the drags burnt out. Brilliant fun. jdanger
Awesome trip poddy! Ticking off the big doggies sounds like a reasonable excuse for a return trip if you ask me. What a chore!
Seazar
That is brilliant. Well done!!!! I've been contemplating a trip to Fiji myself. May I ask what the trip cost? Or is that too public a question???
brendong
Thanks lads agains for all the positove comments.... Seazar - I've PM'd you the cost....I think surprisinly affordable, providing you can drag a few mates along to share the cost...as you'd expect the trip was all inclusive food, drinks, gear, fuel etc (not that we drank alot or had a lot of time to drink), Given you shell a fair bit oif hard earned and you are there to fish...plus your pretty buggered after starting at 7 and clocking off at 5pm daily...
