duckegg
Boys, went south yesterday and it was pretty quiet. Missed the early tide so started wide first up. Not much current and it turned into a cracking day, abeit the fish weren't overly co-operative. Got 2 pannies amongst some other rubbish. Went in close later on and burleyed and got a nice gummie. Missed a stonker! Pulled the hooks after about 5mins into the fight. Would have been a nice way to christen the new stradic/shimano raider combo. I'm sure I will have nightmares about that one for ages. Fished one bottom rig, floaters and plastics. Johno

duckegg
Well done Duckegg. Must be happy with the gummy. Any jackets about? Formosan Yeah not a bad consolation prize I suppose but I will have nightmares about the big mother for a while. Not a jacket to be seen all day just not much happening. Heard you were out yesterday how did you end up? Ended up buying a shimano raider - Mexican fire. Bit longer in the butt and not as fast an action as the terez and rated up to 7kg. Sweet ride. Still got a ways before I can match it with Pete though... Johno

frankp
I haven't tried for snapper yet because I have been focusing on getting a big tuna without any luck so far. How big was the gummy?
Mike.
Johno, been there done that and know how you feel. I lost a big red at the boat, I was using a snell rig and it swallowed one hook and was chewing on the leader...got it close to the surface, saw how big it was then it bit through the leader and swim off...!!!!! Worst feeling ever, but Pete told me, you have to loose a couple big reds to land a good one...he was right. Keep at it mate, hope to see you land a few more soon. At least you have a good feed with the gummy Pete had a blinder on saturday, landed 6 solid reds, biggest 70cm...ill post a report Mike

We got a few little ones and 1 decent one. I posted the pic in Mikes thread. What reel did you match the raider with?

What reel did you match the raider with? Big Red goddammit. Was a little difficult to judge the size & weight as I have 20lb braid on my other rigs and this was the first time i had used this outfit. The drag wasnt over the top but neither was it light and this thing took probably half a dozen runs with the old tell tale head shakes. I reckon i was only 30 seconds from getting colour. Oh well it aint the first time and it wont be the last. Put a CI4 4000 with 15lb braid. Have some more expensive reels but they tend to get smashed in the saltwater and the cheaper reels are more than up to the task. Johno
spooln
Nice catch mate! We could not get past these guys when we were fishing for reds there yesterday. Do the fish arcs on the sounder look familiar? Anyone know what they are?
