Simda
Took the day off work for my birthday and made a new friend that offered to teach me how to target Snapper and what a great birthday it was Rules of the day No1) No bait No2) If things are slow, stick to the plan and don't try to catch bait No3) Respect his spots and keep them confidential I think is someone is going to teach you these were very reasonable conditions We fished with 30 pound line and 20 pound leader with 6 or 7 inch gulps What I learnt was the importance of Graphite Rods. for Snapper these are important as they help set the hook because they flex at the start but then load up the pressure on the fish, The next thing I learnt is its very easy to lose a snapper even after they are hooked if you don't set the hook correctly and or lose pressure on the fish when bring it in. Also I learnt even if you set the hook and reel it in fast you can lose fish quickly to seals one of which took what would have been my PB before the one on the picture. Drifting with Soft Plastic bouncing on the bottom, resulted in almost no by catches till we moved to another area and got some Stinking Barracudas. Also learnt the reason you call them stinking is not because they destroy your baits but because they really Stink Never fished soft plastics before but I am now hooked and understand why people love them so much
Formosan
Very nice fish there. You are so lucky to get a teacher. Looks like 1.5 or 2 oz jighead there so fishing pretty deep hey? The photographer chopped off your head.

Yes jig head was heavy, can remember the exact weight but we fished both Deep and Shallow, when Deep you can dead stick but in the shallow you have to work the plastics The fish is more pretty than me so I'm happy

erroll
Great way to bust the cherry mate. This style of fishing is very entertaining, light rods, always casting and focused, covering a lot oF ground and then of course there is the fight itself. Fantastic work. I hope you shared a beer with your new best mate!
