Advice needed for outboard swap

Hi Everyone.

I'd normally just jump straight to this and not ask for help but I don't want to stuff this up. I'll keep this short and simple.

Taking off a 1977 28hp mariner (front steer), Putting on a 2000 30hp mariner. (tiller steer)

I think I can figure out the basics of how to convert and attach everything.

The motor sat in storage for at least 1 year, Under the hood looks like it was really cared for.

Any pointers on what I should do after I get it hooked up and before it goes in the water or even started?

I'd like to kick it over before I even start installing it so that I don't do everything for nothing, is this a good idea?

always a good idea to put in a new spark plug and maybe change the impellar or at least make sure the water flow is good

yes i think a full service would give you peace of mind.did you get any paper work (service history with motor)if so check the dates of last impellor and service etc cheers dunc333.

Thanks, I might just get it a full service before I get her going, Seeing it sat there for a year with no starting. I didn't get a service history report with it.

if u get a full service done the mechanic will mount it on a stand and get her running for u like a dream

Hi guys

Just a small update.

Got the motor on the other day. Attached everything today. Only thing left is to fine tune it and then take it out on a test run. Was going to today but it's my sister's birthday.

If anyone happwns to see a 12 ft yarracraft run about with a 30 hp mariner on the back waving for a tow in Botany on Sunday it'll be me. Lol I hope not.
