Guest mike2153 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Hi guys got a few questions regarding live bait. I usually put my boat in at Tunks park, i have tried around a few spots in middle harbour for yakkas but havent found any just wondering if anyone can recommend some spots to find them in the harbour? Also i have a Lowarance HDS finder, when i get to a 'bait ground' do you normally cruise around trying to sound out the bait or do you anchor up and burley until they come? One issue i had was with the burley when the tide is running you cant keep the burley near you it just goes straight down or upstream. Any tips would be great cheers.
Brooker40 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Hey mate I'm no expert but I usually get them under the spit or get squid from around near the mored boats heading out towards the harbour cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
svsolaris Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Hi mate Davidson Park boat ramp (under Roseville bridge) often produces yakkas for me, as well as squid, but I only fish at night
fisholb Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Mate d tunks boat ramp got plenty...just burley
nbdshroom Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Mate d tunks boat ramp got plenty...just burley Is this always? What about at low tide? I do not believe they are there then, any suggestions?
fisholb Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Yakkas r not always at d ramp...best times around sunrise/sunset...sometimes I catch them around midday. ..same case with clifton/balmoral...I use chicken/pillys/prawns/mince/bread for bait...small float n size 10/12 hook...I use bread for burley...
fisholb Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Btw...I also use yakkas fillet for bait...seems d yakkas loves eating their own kind...caught plenty recently
quochuy Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Balmoral Jetty is also good spot. Best bait for yakkas are minced beef, pilchards small cuts, yakkas small cuts, bread, sabiki rigs -- http://www.facebook.com/gonefishinginoz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Nolongeramember Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 How do you guys that use mince beef keep that stuff on the hook? Ive tried it a few times and it comes off way too easily in the water....
Guest mike2153 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Awsome thanks guys ill give it a go
quochuy Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 For the minced beef you need to roll them in tiny peas, put on the hook, roll some more to wrap the beef around the hook. It will still come off (less quicker) but that's OK and that will act as burley. -- http://www.facebook.com/gonefishinginoz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
