Whenever I have fished The Hawkesbury, I have found bait at West Head. I also get bait at The Ladders, which is near Little Box Head close to the enterance to Broken Bay.

And What do you use to catch them.

What time do think will be the best time for fishing the hawksbury tomorrow in terms of tide.

I normally use a little 6 hook bait jig. I will normally put a little piece of squid on each hook to entice them after I have sent out some burley of soaked chicken pellets. Some people just use a single hook with a small bait on it, also in a burley slick.

Mate, I don't look at tide times toomuch. I just get out there and have some fun!

Hi Sea Jay,

The Hawkesbury has many live bait opportunities.. It depends on what your fishing for and where in the river you intend to fish them...

To give you an example i use slimeys, yellowtail, herring, tailor and mullet as live bait but not all of them in the same location. Typically i use the livies close to where i got em from. Slimeys and yellowtail in the lower reaches of the river and herring, tailor and mullet in the upper reaches. Obviously this is only a loose guideeline as the yellowtail for instance travel a distance up the river and aren't only located in the lower reaches. But if they are found further up the river good chances are that the jewies have followed them up anyway.

If i only had to choose one of those livies but, without a doubt i would choose herring as THE most reliable live bait (even though it attracts a smaller class of fish)

Read your personal messages for some spots :1naughty::1naughty:

The pillbox off West Head is your best bet. Palmy Wharf also works at times as will just about any bay in the system. Burley and they'll turn up.

I agree with Joe and I reckon Yakkas prefer squid to prawn and you have a better chance of getting your baits past the Sweep and other assorted crapfish that will have you rebaiting 6 hooks after about 2 seconds in the drink.

As for squid, anywhere you see kelp or ribbon weed fling a pink jig around.

yakkas are everywhere but west head has the nice small ones that the rat kingies love. If you want slimies, then the ladders is the go for them, otherwise you are best off heading out to the reefs and trying to sound a patch of them. I don;t use jigs for yakkas and slimies inshore, a baited long shank hook with little or no weight on 2kg line is the go. If I find a school of slimies down deep on the reefs then I get out the jigs and drop them unbaited and always come up trumps.
