Paikea
Following are some pics of the way that I have installed a bait tank pump and plumbing on my 1800 Tournament. The first two pics show the installation of a sliding bracket and a water scoop that the Rule pump is clicked into. The third pic shows the cable from the pump installed through a SS fairlead that has been filled with Sikaflex to waterproof the cable entry. The fourth Pic shows the discharge line from the pump with an isolating valve to close the line when you do not want to use it when underway. The fifth and sixth pics show the oversize overflow to the bait well. The final pic shows the inlet tube that has a number of holes drilled in it to circulate the water in a anti clockwise direction. The inlet tube and fitting through the bottom of the well were made from an irrigation pipe. A shop in Sans Souci has a full range of fittings. The overflow fitting is a bit of a hybrid as it has to go through two skins of the transom. From memory I got it either from Bunnings or Whitworths. Note the internal side has a grille to stop bait going out through the outlet. Enjoy Cheers Paikea
brendong
Nice work mate....just remember to flush out with freshwater after every use. I didn't do that on my first Rule pump and it stopped working pretty quickly...
Paikea
Never thought of that. I have installed a similar set up in all of the boats that I have owned and never had a problem. Never too old to learn! Thanks Cheers Paikea
Blood Knot
Nice neat work Paikea - How did you find the hose clamps pulled up on that spiral hose. Never been too happy using that anti kink hose on livewell fittings myself. Cheers Blood Knot
Paikea
Hi Blood Knot Thanks for the compliment. No problems with the clamps providing they are wide enough. Don't use the narrow ones which do give trouble. I find that the spiral hose is easier to get around corners, it does not kink like the fabric reinforced plastic hose. Cheers Paikea. bluebottle18
Spiral Hose. I found if I wrapped tape around the hose that it lasted longer. Did not like the quality of the plastic used. The sun and other elements quickly deteriated the plastic. Hose from a washing machine was much stronger and lasted longer. Fitting bits and pieces. > Would installing a bracket to the transom reduce the number of holes drilled. By using that bracket to attach your bits and pieces. Just some thoughts and thinking outside the square. I had an old 15ft tinny cut a heavy piece of ply to fit the transom. Bolted it on and Plenty of silastic etc. I know two different types of boats but just a thought. I oile/ sealed it with linsead oil Perhaps when you take the boat to the repairer ask him about what you can do. Could come up with a good idea. The other screws on the transom do not go all the way through, only the old transducer bracket. I am going to ask the repairer to check all possible sources of the leak. Hopefully he will come up with the answer. Thanks for your comments Cheers Paikea
imgoin
Nice set up mate. I installed the same sort of setup but ran a two way switch and connected a deck shower head off it as well which acts as a deck wash as well it doesn't have great preasure but enough to wash blood an fish guts of the boat which has saved me some clean up time when getting home. Cleaning the boat was driving me crazy trying to get it off after it had baked on.
lostproperty
We've got the same pump and its making a bit d noise after 12 months but still going strong, can't remember the last time we washed it with fresh water ! I spoke too soon ! Pretty much 2 years old and the old pump died ! Replaced and re-wired it all at a cost of $20 which isn't too bad and had to replace the bottom of our barrel fitting as it broke in the sun with a brass one, pretty good value for money! Worked out that the tank keeps filling if we drive with the pump turned on ( water is being forced through the pump while driving) so no need to keep turning it off
