yeah definitely go with navionics. I used it for 18 months till I upgraded my fish finder to a GPS combo.

It takes a little while to get used to but once you know how to key in a gps mark and track where you are, it's a fantastic option if you don't have GPS on your boat.

I contacted MotionX GPS and here is their answer:

"Thank you for contacting the MotionX team. At this time our NOAA experimental charts cover the Pacific, Atlantic, Gulf, and Alaskan coasts as well as the Great Lakes. Our NOAA map data does provide depths in fathoms. 1 fathom = 6 feet or 1.83 meters. Please zoom your map to zoom level 14 or closer to view depth. If you are still missing depth please let us know the area you are viewing and we would be happy to investigate further."

So I've been looking for some other marine data and found out that Open Sea Map can be used with MotionX GPS' custom map type (in-app purchase required). The only issue is that Open Sea Map's tiles are actually just transparent overlays that are meant to be used in conjunction with another map tiles such as Open Street Map. So I created my own tile server that combines Open Sea Map and Open Street Map.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post the my tile URL here so if you want to use it with Motion X GPS or another app, PM me and I'll give it to you.
