benm
Just wondering why is it really hard to find straight hooks with an offset eye? I have been taught to use a straight hook for livies so that the point doesn't dig back into the fish. What if I want to add a stinger hook, i.e. double snell? Obviously you need an offset eye for a snell knot or the sharp edge of the eye may cut/weaken the line. I was at the tackle shop and I couldn't find any straight hooks with offset eyes. What hook do you use for double snell for livies whether it be big squid or large yakka/slimies?

Seems like a lot of people use the offset point on livies regardless. I know how to do a sliding snell but have had problems with the line snapping due to sudden friction from the hook sliding on the line.
stevefish
the eye will have a sharp edge whether offset or not. i use gamakatsu 7/0 occy's, fixed snell to suit the size of the bait, wrap and tie a bit of waxed rigging thread or waxy dental floss around the eye to blunt the sharp edge. the offset of the bend should be an advantage, pass the hook through so when laid flat by the predators mouth, the offset lifts the barb away from the bait rather than into it. with the gamakatsus above this will be into the baits right shoulder, exiting the left shoulder. or bridle them for less risk of digging in. mii11x
Hi mate, I mainly use size 5/0 to 8/0 gama occy circle and gama occy hooks snelled, with 40lb flouro leader, sometimes 60lb flouro leader. I just tie on the spot to suit my bait whether it be squid or yellowtail. With regards to the offset eye, are the ones in the photo what your after?? The eyes are at a slight angle. Thanks man, pretty much answers it. I guess I was being pedantic about using offset points for livies from what I've previously been "taught". With regards to the offset eye, are the ones in the photo what your after?? The eyes are at a slight angle. Thanks fo the photos Mick. I was more concerned over the point of the hook being offset to the shank of the hook vs inline.
