avoca rocks 22/12/13

Hi raiders. Took my eldest son n my mate yesterday to avoca hoping to catch bonito/salmon/kingy. Got to d spot around 5am. D carpark was almost empty. Wasn't a good sign. It is usually packed this time of d year. Went straight to our fav spot but it was already taken so decided to setup near it. Got prawns/pillys/squid for bait. Cast out 3 rods with whole pilly/cali squid. While I was setting up my sons rod, one of d rods with squid starting screaming. I quickly grab the rod and just let it run then when I started reeling the line in, d line went slack. I was devastated. It took around 50m of my line n whack I checked, the trace broke on d bottom swivel. I always used uni knot and it was the first time it failed. I always use a fresh rig so I really felt pretty bad.

Anyway I re rig n cast it out again with squid. My son had fun with catching monster yakkas n we caught heaps. My mate caught a Trev on squid strip around d 40cm mark. Didn't get any other hook ups on the big rods so decided to packed up around 10am.

All up it was a good day. Spent some quality time with my eldest son. We haven't done it for a while. Happy holidays everyone.

Well done mate, shame about the rig giving way, but great you got your son onto some yakkas and your mate a decent trev!

Thanks smn...hope to meet u one day when im up there..just gonna look for someone with an alvey...hehehe...im currently using my 650bcxl off rocks...still to hook a kingy on it...hopefully soon

Hahaha yeah I'll be packing an alvey, just come and say g'day! Just modified my 650E5 with a rapid retrieve handle, a king off the rocks is my goal this summer too mate! Hope you get one soon!!!
