Guest Jocool
Now normally I take my fishing seriously. Not today! Sticking my head out the window at 4 AM, I was greeted by the sight of stars and barely a leaf moving on the nearby tree tops. So...a fishing we shall go! Having loaded the boat from the previous day, and Iain rocking up to my place, we left on the planned time of 5 AM to meet Mark at Rose Bay ramp. Motored out from the wharf, and slid over the glass smooth water that greeted us, and stopped and admired the vista that is Sydney Harbour with the City as a backdrop right on sunrise. Beautiful! We didn't plan on using livies, so did not try and get any. We basically just stuck our noses outside the heads, and mooched around for a while, said G'day to Ken on George, who cleaned up apparently , and started a drift about 1 KM out in 45 M of water. We though we were of to a great start when Mark finds his dinner! A nice flatty of about 50 cms. But that was all we hit as we drifted slowly North. A decision was made, and we began to motor closer in to perhaps tempt something with our offerings around Bluefish. But we were interrupted by those pesky Salmon boiling up around us! Again Mark showed us the way by hooking in to a solid Sambo that had him dancing the Sambo Jig around the boat! Iain and I still fishless at this stage. Mark took his merry time bringing the fish up as we watched the school drift away, and get attacked by various boats with all sorts of offerings, from metal to plastic as well as fly. There were a surprising number of boats using fly actually! We re-joined the chase, but alas could not get any more runs on the board. I had a couple of taps, but I honestly wasn't expecting a 6 inch sluggo to do the trick. Our efforts were also hampered by the number of new boaters that we encountered, cutting us off, or driving over the or too close to the schools. They were either new boaters or just ignorant sods! It's going to be a long summer! Gave away the Sambos chasing as the westerly wind had picked up over that time, so a b-line was made to the relative calm afforded us by the overhead cliffs at Bluefish. Anchor down, and burley trail started, and the boys began to pull in a variety of bottom dwelling ooglies, included a Pike that found itself with a 6/0 in its back! A few differnt spots around the Harbour were tried for nil results. But hey, thats fishing. Although we didn't see Captain Pugwash out there, I nearly got in trouble on his behalf! Pete, it's all your fault I was getting wierd looks from the skipper of the Navy Patrol boat that looked exactly like the Black Pig! The Navy boys were curious as to why I came screaming in toward them, and then veered of at the last minute when I realised it WASN'T the Black Pig! Fishing is never predictible, but at least its great to spend a day on the water with great company! Boys...your more than welcome, any time you please! And Iain, thanks for the tips on handling my own boat. I have never had a CC, and it is soooooo different to what it was as a tiller steer. It's exactly like having a new boat. Narralakes
G'day Joe, good seeing you and the boys out on the water. After seeing you guys at Bluefish, Bluecod and I had a nice session. I'll post something up. Your boat looks a dream, wouldnt mind something like that one day, certainly looks like the ultimate fishing vessel and all kitted out as well. It was a great day on the water, that's for surrrrrrre.

wombat
Well done chaps. Sounded like a good day. The cross city tunnel was supposed to open today as well. Did that help or hinder the trip from the west to Rose Bay Joe? Wombat

Captain Pugwash
Although we didn't see Captain Pugwash out there, I nearly got in trouble on his behalf! Pete, it's all your fault I was getting wierd looks from the skipper of the Navy Patrol boat that looked exactly like the Black Pig! Joe, that's hilarious. Lucky they didn't launch a scud missile at you. To save any future mishaps Joe I liked the red flag idea at the social day that I am keeping it up permenantly so fellow raiders can recognise the Black Pig. We were a few clicks further north at Long Reef today. Got driven mad by wrasse before finally coming up solid on a nice 52cm Morwong. The lips on those suckers are amazing. Thought I was landing an aquatic Marcia Hines! The only decent fish for the day but dinner is secured tonight. Cheers Pete
Guest Jocool
My red flag is tagged to me antenna. It lives ther now! Funny you mention Longy. That was our original destination, but what with the Sambo distraction, and then the wind coming up, we figured we would be more comfortable inside the Harbour. PLUS....both my deckies were munching on Quells as we launched!

Cheers to the red flag, that is a great idea! Quells I assume are for seasickness? It was a magnificent day out there again. As we were coming home with the sun setting behind middle head Dollface just looked around and reminded me that " you wouldn't live anywhere else would you?". And that's for sure! alexit
That red flag got my attention too Joe. Too bad you did not get on to many fish. We went south to for a look see all the way down to bondi. No fish but had a big pod of dolphins round the boat. Sounds like I should have followed narra north.... alex
Guest Jocool
Pete, I did put put out a couple of calls, using the agreed upon protocol for Fishraiders , but I got no calls back! Mate just switch it on, and you can also pick up other interesting chatter while out there. I hear you Alex. Ken's the man from now on! I have to hurry and get a fly outfit together now. We also had a big seal surface near us. You saw that too didn't you? Or was that when Ken was along side????
Guest bluecod
Good to see you boys out there, it would be interesting to see three of you waving the long wand from "Jiggin Joe". Alex - that's one hell of a good finish on your craft, gotta be proud of your efforts on that vessel - nice to see you bring the better half out for the day as well Pete, Are you still flying the red flag? Ken and I thought we saw you putting out from the Clontarf area about 12.15 ??
Martin
Up at 4 am!!!! Its still winter. Sound as though you had a great day. Shame the fish did not co-operate so you could cap off the day with a few fillets for then pan. Do you find September quieter period than August when it comes to fishing? Cheers

Guest bluecod
What is the station that you guys use and whats the story with the red flag 63300[/snapback] Sea Jay, Radio Channel 27.960 mhz Red Flag - I think the idea of Fishraiders flying a red flag to identify each other's boats at socials started well before the last couple of social events, but seems to be taking off as a general rule - last Sunday it made spotting the Fishraider so much easier, particularly if your on a boat that doesn't have radio
Guest Jocool
Sea Jay, Click HERE! This is a run down of the protocol we have set up to get in touch with other Fishraiders. I think it would be good for all to utilise it. I tried on the weekend but no-one answered. It could be that they just didn't want to talk to me! I think the red flag was originally George's idea. I kept the flag goin as it makes it easier to identify other Raiders, like George has mentioned. Some members even fly a pair of red Reg Grundies. If you want to do that, at least make sure they are a clean set!
Guest bluecod
Can't take credit there Joe - I've got a feeling it was Pedro and his grundies that started it :074:
