burnsie
Hi guys I just brought a cheap old Johnson seahorse 50hp. I think the serial number is A0674006. I got it off the cap on top of the motor. Can anyone tell me what year model it is?

a boat
Hi, the model number is needed to determine the year model of a E/J outboard. Cheers, Huey.
burnsie
Thanks for the reply Huey. It doesn't have it on the mounting bracket, is there somewhere else I might find it?
a boat
Hi, no the serial and model number is listed on the plate on the transom bracket-where did you get that serial number from if not from this plate. Why not post a picture and I can give you an idea of the vintage. Cheers, Huey.
burnsie
I found it on the metal cap on the block. Here's a photo of it. Edited January 14, 2014 by burnsie
GaryO
That would just be the part number of the welsh plug id say. Keep looking for a plate attached somewhere.
a boat
Hi, that is an early 80's engine so when and if looking for parts use about 82. That plug is the serial number but as I mentioned the model number is what determines the year model and it would of been on a plate on the transom brackets. Good old engines these and they go forever-have plenty of early 70's ones still kicking about. Cheers, Huey.
