My first bream on surface lure!

Thanks Bartos09 for taking me as talking buddy and show me how to catch breams on surface lure!

We went to Deep Creek in Narrabeen couple of weeks ago but caught donut as the tide and weather conditions were not good (or so was our excuse...).

This morning we decided to go to Tunks Park on the harbour and started to paddle around the jetties. I started casting some frozen worms and caught only undersize whiting a and snappers. I then switched to an OZ Dog lure (cheapo from the bidding website). After few casts my mate found a good spot. I casted my lure in between two pylons covered with oysters and started to walk the dog that's when, for the first time, I heard the famous bream kiss sound!!! Yay, awesome sound especially when at the second kiss ended up by a hookup and a nice fight that gave me a 26cm bream. Not too bad. Bartos, after a lot of follows finally caught 4 breams one of which was 32cm! Nice mate.

I now need to work my cast to make them quieter.

Sorry no photos as my phone was dead.

Yeah guys it's very addictive.

I went back the day after but the tide was too low. Then two hours before high tide, I had to leave but my buddy arrived. I helped him launch and then he texted me he caught heaps of them on surface.

I need to practice more and get a smaller lure.

My phone is now repaired so there will be photos for next time :-)

Well done Huy!! It is VERY addictive - and you will find that the closer you get that lure to ANY pole/pylon/structure - you will get more hits!!! :D

You'll be listening for the bream kiss from now on too! ;) In leases, I hear it all the time, as they suck the shrimp off the racks!

cheers

Thanks Roberta. That bream of mine was caught on a cast between two of the pylons that was supporting a (how do you call that?) shed (??) above the water. They were covered with oysters. Splash and then on the second flick "kiss" then "kiss" again then "fish on!".

Sureangler, yeah it's not easy. I had loads of follows but to get them strike is another story let alone getting a hook up. Just managed one bream in three outtings... I need to understand the correct tide, lure (size, colors etc...), spots... Practice practice...

Boat shed?

When they are actively 'smacking/kissing' at the lure, make sure you DON'T strike until you feel the weight of the fish on your line - otherwise you are just pulling it away from them!

If you are out on 'open' water (like fishing the shallows), you can play round with different 'retrieves' more - sometimes I DO keep the lure moving slowly, to encourage them to come after it & chase it, but I always STOP retrieving as soon as I see that initial 'bloop', especially if around structure like poles & jetties!! It can be frustrating, but that is the discipline that you need, sometimes, to get the hookup! ;)
