Hacking - the last two weeks

Haven't posted/fished in a while, heres a brief report of my last few outings.

Fished twice last week, once for kings, and the second was flathead out the front.

Caught about 8 relatively small squid along south cronulla before loosing my favorite yo-zuri to the weedy monster of the deep (that really heavy thick kelpy stuff :mad3:). And tried out and around the bombora only to loose two squid to rats. Came back inside the river and was teased by some larger models around lilli pilli that just didn't want to play. Ended up with no kings, but took home half a dozen squid for dinner.

Following session I decided against the kings and just went out around merries reef and greenhills to do a few flathead drifts. One rather large sargeant baker and a few 35-45ish sized flatties but plagued with spikies. Enough again for a few plates of fish. On this day I saw two very shy hammerheads that wouldn't take baits. One came up very close to the boat on several occasions and it was a really cool sight. Both fish would have been in the 1.2-1.6m range.

Also saw a small pod of dolphins and a seal in the bay. Played with the seal for 10 minutes before we got on with the fishing.

Went out this morning, couldn't manage any yellowtail which was odd so had a go at some duskies on plastics. Fished the very end of the run out and the bottom of the tide releasing one nice fish around 50cm and missed two others of similar size. Was fishing with a gulp wriggler on a 1/6 ounce head. Then had a crack at some kings and finally enticed a little rat on a dead bait.

Anyways have had some nice days on the water. One thing i have found is that there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as much surface action (tailor, macks, kings, bonito, salmon and what not) in the river as the last couple of seasons. Anyone else finding this too? Kinda sucks because that was always the best fun on light gear.

Water temp is roughly 23-24 degrees im pretty sure.

Also I've been thinking of having a crack for jewies in the next couple of sessions, anyone being doing alright at the moment?

Cheers
