Belligero
Hi All, Purchased my first boat last weekend and I was very lucky with what I got. The person who sold the boat unfortunately wasn't in the best of ways medical wise and just wanted to sell it quickly. For $2700 I got the boat, trailer, sounder, electric winch, some fishing gear, all safety gear, VHF radio & even came with a full tank. The boat is in fantastic condition and the 70HP oil injection motor is even better. Looking at the motor is looks as though it's never been used and it's a 1994 model! This weekend will be spent repainting the inside & running the buffer on the hull to bring it back to life a little. Now leads me to the questions! When buffering is it OK to buffer the coloured fiberglass(Orange) or should this be treated another way? Also the only real concern I have for the boat is the bung hole looks dodgy. Can I unscrew the metal plate and replace it (If I can get it off) or should I sand the rust back? oziodin
What a great bye I would take to a fiberglass repairer and spend that bit extra cash and get it fixed correctly by a pro . And you will have peace of mind . And a lot of enjoyment . Cheers. Oziodin
Linc
That is a bargain, the winch alone is worth half that! I agree with Oziodin, unless you are experienced with fibre glass, for the price you paid you can afford a few extra $ to get it done properly. Belligero
It doesn't need that much work just a quick one over with a buffer and some decent polish.I don't know about the bung though I rather fix it myself as it's quicker and cheaper!Doesn't leak or anything I just don't like the rust
Linc
I'd say you should be able to replace the whole bung pretty easily if the glass around it is still in good nick.
Guest Aussie007
that engine is worth $2700 alone, check your transom it could be rotted
Belligero
No rotting anywhere on the boat. Few nicks from getting it onto the trailer but other then that it's been well looked after..and will continue to be well looked after. I'll look into replacing the whole bung
Paikea
Unusual to have a metal bung, I would look at replacing it with a larger plastic bung if you have the room. Seal the joint between the bung fitting and the transom with Sikaflex. Cheers Paikea
batfishing
They are a great hull, and with a 70 on the back should perform well. I had one with a 55hp on the back for 17 years, it was a great boat. However that picture you have of the bung and I presume a transducer mount do not look good or correct. That bung is plastic, the rust below is not making any sense to me. I see others have questioned the structure of the transom, and you have replied it is good. I don't like that rust, looking at the photos Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Guest Aussie007
Ian, i had another look at the pictures today it looks like someone has screwed a door hinge under the keel of the boat for some reason and thats whats rusted i actually thought the fibreglass was de-laminating from the keel stringer but its the above

You could be correct with the door hinge. I just wonder why. The hull to the side of that plate does not look good. I would be getting that plate off as quickly as possible and seeing what needs to be repaired in the area Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Belligero
Hi All,We took the boat out sunday and little to no water came out of the hull which was great.I won't remove the plate as it isn't causing any greif and has been there for a long time already.Obviously I'll keep my eye on it and maybe later this have it repaired. But for the moment it's performing well. The next job is the electrical equipment. I'm thinking of install a switch board just so it's easier. Would this be wise? rstathers
Ive just finished a rebuild of a Nautiglass V150... Was a great project, boat had been in the family since new but the biggest issue was the transom was shot - so bad the outer glass of the hull was the only thing holding the engine on!!I cut off the rear top glass section to exposure the transom and then went to town. Wasnt a bad project and for a first time boat repairer i managed to get the job done without fiberglassing my fingers together! I had a neighbour help me respray the orange/red to a nice blue colour. My bungs were s.steel on the outer side, with a copper pipe through the transom. Surprisingly the only solid piece of the transom was around the bungs.I dropped a new Merc 60hp BF which pulls v nicely. A small switchboard panel went well just to the right of the steering wheel and allows control of nav light, fish finder. She's solid as a rock on the water, great for the family.
