Hi guys , was wondering if any of you are running an airmar 260 broad band transducer on a 585 , am looking at upgrading from a 258 transducer to a 260 for deep dropping , curious to know if the claims about improved sensitivity , bottom definition and separation and improved dearth capabilities are true .?

If any one has made this upgrade or has a 260 on a 585 would appreciate feedback , Thanks

Hi webster,

I have the 585 and tm260 on my barcrusher. Very happy with it. Deep drop in 500m and mark individual fish. Good readings at speed, mark big fish around bait schools. No dramas with it after two years. Hope this helps.

Hi Croydon ,

Thanks for your reply . I also a Barchusher which my tm 258 is mounted on , the set up with the 585 has been good , but I would be lucky to pick up individual fish at 500 mtrs , even with perfect conditions I haven't been able to achieve that sort of definition so that sounds really interesting . Looking at the airmar stats for the tm 260 I believe it's 25 times more sensitive .

What sort of maximum depth have you been able to get out of it ? Read one forum where a bloke said he could read bottom in 800 mtrs under ideal conditions ?

Plan on getting stuck into deep dropping this winter and have invested in a Miya Epoch ( pleased to retire the old Alvey I can tell you)

have been given some marks that are as deep as 700 mts in one case , so would be interested in your thoughts of the capabilities of your setup at those extreme depths

Cheers ,thanks again

Hi mate,

The marks I deep drop are around 530m so that's about as deep as I've tried. I'm happy with it, must have lucked out when I installed the tranny!! Couldn't say if it would be better or worse than the 258 as I haven't tried one. It's taken a bit to work out the sounder settings. Just means more time on the water I guess, which isn't all bad. Good luck with your choice.......
