Dave_
G'day Raiders, Me and a mate went to Lake Mac on Sunday for the Pirtek comp. We had looked forward to this day for ages and so we had a great preparation. The targets were Flathead, Tailor and Whiting so we had live poddys, nippers and squirt worms and every lure you could think of. Freshest bait and best lures meant we couldn't go wrong right? Wrong. It turned out to be one of the toughest days fishing I've had in a long time. 11 hours on the water produced just 1 legal fish (Flathead 47cm) and a heap of crap fish. Tiny snapper, tiny tarwhine, a little flounder, heaps of sub 15cm flathead and tons of silver biddys (wtf?). I hadn't fished the lake before but my mate had on several occasions with success. We tried everything we knew between us and moved everywhere. I couldn't believe we had poddys out for 11 hours and only one got hit. Plastics, hardbodys, blades, 2lb FC nothing worked. No one we spoke to even boated one good fish. Did anyone else fish the Lake and if so did you have any luck?

I wasnt in the comp just up there for the weekend. we fished outside on saturday, got heaps of jackets and undersize flathead. all up not a very succesfull weekend
calvinching
Hi matyg, Which carpark you meant? Lake mac is pretty big and carparks are everywhere around them.. Have you tried the entry point to the river near five islands road Dave? I heard they produce some good results there, I was there on run out tide Saturday but got none on sp
matyg
haha all I meant was there were so many boats around channel as you enter the lake from swansea, it felt like a carpark.

I pumped nippers and worms and was fishing the flats near you guys but couldn't get through the baby squire and silver biddys. Well done on your fish. milestone72
I got this 75cm flatty about 8 on sunday at wangi wangi in my yak, got a few pics then released it and then went over to pulbah island. Should have stayed at wangi, it was very slow for the rest of the day. Edited March 28, 2014 by kranky
