hatheadheaven
G'day Raiders, Keen to get away soon for a weekend camping and fishing, and was thinking of heading inland. I have only fished Lake Lyell once (for zip ), so am a bit of a novice when it comes to inland fishing. Have read a couple of raiders reports about Thompsons Creek Dam, but I gather there is no camping there. Also heard about Lake Wyangala near Cowra - anyone been there? Just need somewhere that allows camping, is good for land-based spinning, and is within 4 hours or so of Sydney. Any suggestions would be greatfully received Cheers Simon
Sir Battler
From reports wyangala is still very low (~10% in early Aug.) and was struggling with Blue green algae. I have camped a few times at Lake Lyell and have usually managed to catch a few fish. A few fellas on the site have managed a few over the past few weeks. Lyell fish are rather responsive to Powerbait fished very light over shallow weed areas. Other options could be Windamere near Mudgee and Lake St Clair further north. If dont mind staying in a pub or alike Oberon dam could be a goer for some trout. Hope i helped, look forward to your report
Matt
Lake Lyell is a pretty good option. Has a decent Camping Ground and the lake level has been stable for a while now (although pretty low at 29%). Plenty of Rainbows around and the Browns should be finished spawning soon. Windamere is another good (again its low at about 40%). Good camping ground and offers Yella's, Cod, Silver and Catties. St Clair and Glenbawn in the hunter also have good camping area's and the Bass fishing in these lakes is simply superb. I reckon St Clair is one of the prettiest lakes I have seen. Some pretty diverse Freshwater Options around depending on what your tastes are Cheers Windy Edited August 31, 2005 by Matt
macman
G'day Mate, Glenbawn or St Clair would have to be the pick. Windamere is the most overrated place in NSW IMHO. At least the Hunter dams give you options( bass) and have good camping facilities. Windamere is very.very poor, except when its got a lotof water in it and when the conditions are perfect ( a baromoter roughly approaching 20000000) Matt
hatheadheaven
Thanks matts, pedro and the battler... some food for thought Glenbawn might be the go....... Now, if I'm targeting Bass or others up there, what's the best lures? I have a couple of sx-40's and 48's, plus a smorgasbord of bass minnows, grubs, squigies etc. I've read on some other posts that VT-55's and 65's are ok too. Anyone got any faves, or ones that are working at the moment? Cheers Simon

Cheers Simon 64974[/snapback] mate, my favourite lure up there for yellas is the cheapo bibless rattlers you used to get in KMARKET, I see that there is a thing called a Berkeley frenzy which is a similar thing, but the one I liked was Red. I see a lot of reports and people seem to favour the jackalls ( which I think are also a bibless rattler of sorts) but these are too exxy for my blood, $25 each !!!! Other lures up there that worked for me were the hot-lips deep divers trolled, plus the ever reliable deceptions. have a look bakc through the reports and you will see what the guys favour for bass.
