Houdini
I would like some info on tips and tricks for the subject. I'm keen to try some clip down rigs with impact shields or similar rigs. Anyone out there keen to share some knowledge and or pics/video on the matter? I've had a look at the tube and they show the shield and set up but not so much the hook and main line set up and how the casting pressure doesn't dislodge the shield when casting. Any help would be appreciated.

LungFai
Just watched a vid. http://www.breakawayusa.com/wp-content/themes/londoncreative/video/impact-shield.wmv Looks like the casting does not put pressure on the shield so it doesn't travel the correct way to dislodge the bait/hook. Once the sinker and shield hit the water the pressure of the water flowing the correct way along the shield forces is to travel along it's apex which lifts the casting line which in turn pushes the hook/bait off the nest. I wouldn't worry about the casting pressure but more the wind pressure but then again the g force of the hook loaded with bait would probably (well obviously it does as people have used it) keep the hook/bait sitting pretty in the nest until it hits the water. I'd prob just run a paternoster rig with it. Edit : Just saw the username....why don't you just teleport the bait and line to your desired spot? NaClH2OK9
I tried out impact Shields when living in the UK. I constantly found they didn't release correctly. A standard clip down rig is much better in my opinion. But I also have to agree with comments above. Unless you are explicitly targeting a structure. You will probably cast over the fish! ... outdoordan
Hahaha... Have a look at the Breakaway IMP2's. They are my prefered option for clip down rigs. I find they can be sumwhat unreliable with certain simker designs, as the release lever needs to be activated by water pressure on touch down. star sinkers and some snapper leads shiel the clip too much and cause the clip no to release. Another issue is that alot of the release clip designs are made for poms and the small hooks used for thier style of fishing. even with the IMP2, i find a 4/0 gama to be about max. There is tonnes of good stuff on the net about distance casting/fishing that are a wealth of knowledge. I have progressed from about 90m to 165m on a good cast (4oz without bait) with an overhead. The worst part is that is very mediocre in distance casting circles, where some blokes are hitting 270m. what gear are you running?
