VViCKiD
Hi guys, Sorry to be a serial question asker, but I'm planning to upgrade from 27 hz to VHF marine radio. Just wondering if this will require a new antennae ? Thanks heaps for the help ! Cheers
Belligero
Pretty sure it's a different frequency with the antenna, a new vhf antenna will cost you under $100 or can be included as a package. I think you can run a VHF and 27 from the vhf antenna using a split of come kind.I just use two antennas though.
VViCKiD
Thanks Belligero. The main problem I have is that the boat already has an existing mount for a 27 hz antenna.
a boat
Hi, different aerial will be needed. You can get cheap ones or good ones and the GME GX600 and the aerial is the one I would fit and if you post a picture of the current aerial I am sure you will be able to get a VHF the same. A band splitter can be used to get Am/FM and VHF or 27 meg with the same aerial. Good prices on the GME stuff at the moment. Cheers, Huey.
VViCKiD
Thanks Huey Here's the aerial I have (it's an AE60): Would you know of a VHF aerial + mount that would fit that mount (I don't really want to drill more holes into the boat) ?
Jocler
The mounting should be the same. The AE 60 aerial is also GME. J Edited May 28, 2014 by Jocler
a boat
Hi, the AE60 is an older aerial. They know have the aerial base and whip separately-different P/N's. The right new design one would cover the old holes and be a better system. PM me if you would like more details and pricing at present, Cheers, Huey. locodave
You sound like me! Would hate to drill new holes. Not sure if you have thought of this but why dont you keep the 27 antenna and buy a handheld vhf?
VViCKiD
Yeh that's not a bad option Dave. But I don't think the range on handheld is as good. I think I'll cross this bridge once I've got my licence. For now 27hz will probably do
