THE Merc!

Hi, we see a sunk engine almost weekly-doing a 8HP Mariner at present and yes the basic carby 2-Stroke are pretty hardy and as long as someone gets at it as soon as it comes up for air they tend to survive. If the engine is brought to the surface and then left for a few days that is when the damage happens. An engine is best left under water until you can get someone to look at it.

Funny how the Merc rep fails to mention that engine is not really a Merc, more a Tohatsu with Merc stickers on it, but in fairness any carby engine can survive this sort of thing if it is not subject to air and the corrosion that happens internally once that happens..

Cheers,

Huey.
