Blues Point Blackfish 4/9

G'day,

Well after a pleasant Saturday morning with the family up at Mona Vale, spent a bit of time on the beach making sandcastles, watching helicopters AND gathering a bit of weed/cabbage for bait. A bloody lovely day.

Then woke on Sunday morning to the pitter patter of rain, decided that I wasn't going to be beaten, but pitter patter turned into bloody heavy with a little wind thrown in for good measure.

Determined to pull a few fish I braved the elements for a few hours at Blues Point, at least got to try out my new floats, which were pretty good I might add. COuldn't pull a fish though, I had a few very tentative downs and some nipped baits, but the chop, wind rain and general crapness of the day was too much.

BUT, I got out of the house and consequently felt like I had won, AND I really enjoyed it out there in the wind and the rain ( I must be loosing it). The big up-side, it was completely ****wit free,( except for myself of course) :)

You weren't tempted to soak some of that lovely fresh weed at the spot? Mona Vale baths can be very productive for blackies and especially drummer on cabbage - a bit dodgy :1yikes: at anything other than low tide though.

Also, Turimetta is just down the road and is reputed to be the best blackfishing spot on the northern beaches. Can't say that its ever worked that well for me though, however the ****wit ratio is low.

Chris, definitely a day to stay at home (unless you're sitting in a boat under a bridge targeting stinkers :) ).

Appoohhhh, I had the family in tow, and rock fishing wasn't on the menu, the pool is a pretty second rate spot most of the time anyway, it fires but only occassionally. As for Turimetta, it is excellent but only when the gutters are free of sand which happens about once every 3 years :). If I wanted to go rock fishing for blackfish, I have plenty of other spots that produce, but at the moment I am enjoying the relaxed approach and looking for options closer to home, now all I need to do is find a bit of local bait !!

hey matt did you check out that weed spot i suggested?

should have had a go at spit instead of blue pt, at least a little protection from the wind (and rain if it really belts down...straight under the bridge!) plus i heard there have been a few there.

No, I didn't get time, and it wouoldn't have mattered where I went, it was a complete mockery, I couldn't even feel my fingers after about ten minutes :)

Mate i see plenty of blackies swimming around at clifton gardens....ive seen 5 caught there in 3 weeks on weed and the people that caught them were only there maybe 2 hours before sunset....the only problem is finding weed around the place....ive looked everywhere and i only found some scrapings from the westerly point which is about a 30 minute walk :biggrin2:

That's no excuse. Just bring along some of my patented blue-green algae pudding mix!

Ingredients

2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1/4 cup warm water

1 pinch sugar

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup rye flour

4 tablespoons spirulina

1 cup veggie broth

Method

1. Combine yeast, sugar, and water. Allow to rest 10 minutes.

2. In a large bowl, combine flours and spirulina. Mix.

3. Add 1/2 cup broth.

4. Add more broth as needed to make a smooth dough.

5. Roll out dough on a floured surface and mould into fish or nipper shapes. Put any leftover pudding in a sealed container and store in the fridge for next time.

Mate, if you don't catch your bag limit of blackies at Clifton this weekend on this stuff you're just not not trying. :biggrin2:
