Registration numbers (taken from NSW Maritime Site)

Registered vessels are assigned a registration number. This number must be displayed at all times on both sides of the hull, in figures at least 150mm high (100mm for Personal Watercraft (PWC) and sailing vessels). Sailing vessels may display their registration number on the transom.

The registration numbers must be displayed in a contrasting colour to the hull, in solid characters (not outlines), in a clear font or style and in upper case, so that they can be clearly identified.

As blood knot points out as long as they are contrasting colours.

That said. My Hull is mid grey and half my numbers are white and half black ( like that when I bought it)

My maiden voyage I got pulled at the ramp by an maritime 'advisor' he said he was just at the ramps helping boaters to be legal ( he gave out stickers and advised on min requirements)

He told me that all my letters should be black.

I've never changed them and been pulled for a flare check since and it didn't come up.
