Guest bluecod
I think the topic says most of it. Came out through the heads before 7 - there must have been 15 boats in an area the size of a football field, all waiting for the sambos to bust up at north head, but no show whilst we were there. Zillions of birds all the way to Long Reef and most of them were just cruising around looking for a feed. A couple of minor shows on the surface wide of Dee Why, just enough to warrant a cast or two. It was at one of these bird fests that the Cap'n got a double hook up. First a gannet scored the lure and a mutton bird got tangled in the line winding them both to the boat, the muttonbird was doing it real tough as he slid along the line, only to have the stuffing kicked out of him by the gannet. It was a funny sight, one moment the gannet was trying to dislodge the lure, the next he was tearing into the poor little mutton bird who was obviously getting the blame for the predicament the gannet found itself in, and all the mutton bird could do was try and get away on a very short tether. It took a couple of minutes to untangle them but both flew away OK. Bottom bounced for a while before the wind came up for an XOS pike and a few Sgt Bakers - at least we didn't run into Elvis and his gang, so not much ground tackle lost. Had a chat to Captain Pugwash on the way home, just as he was settling over the Wreck - our sounder showed some good fish underneath him so hopefully he did better than us. Narralakes
Bad luck there George, next time for sure. Didnt you try Spot X and burley? Looks like the wind got up early too. I found that when in the harbour the other day, alot of boats were waiting around North Head like you mentioned today, I opted to go looking for them inside, that's where I found them anyhow. We'll catch up soon, cheers Ken
Guest bluecod
No Ken - it was a wee bit bumpy for Spot X. Actually it was like a bleeding washing machine out today the swell was around 1.5 to 2 and fairly confused particularly in close. Looked in all the usual spots but nought happening for us - I think its the Capn's boat
Narralakes
When I was there the other day it was very bumpy, to the point where I was getting sea sick and had to go in, otherwise I would have stayed out there.
Guest bluecod
Now that wouldn't be the spot where you guys anchored and set up a burley trail at the salmon social would it? 66335 Now Andrew, what would make you think that there's also spots "Y" and "Z" too Bad luck about the lack of action today George, the salmon are often hard to locate on weekends, especially when they've had so much hype recently. 66335 They'll probably be thick tomorrow - there one day, gooone the next. If I knew I was going to get amongst them everytime, I'd take up lawnbowls [or live closer to the ramp ]
