Advice on Landbased Georges/ Botany to host Social Fishing Day

Hi Sydney Fisho's,

I need your HELP!! I am organising a Fishing Comp as part of a larger Community Sporting Carnival being held in Sydney from 27 to 31 December 2014. Our assigned fishing session will most likely be on Sunday 28 Dec from 7am to 11am. Most of the people who will be fishing will be "social" at best and not necessarily highly skilled anglers. I might have anything from 10 to 20 people including a number of ladies and kids (but it could even get up to 40, but that's very unlikely). It will be a very laid back affair, although 'champion' angler will be presented with a trophy at the overall presentation ceremony on 31/12 - so I am feeling the pressure to put people in the position to catch a couple of fish!! Tide will be low to run-in on 28/12, so probably expecting to guide people onto some bream, whiting or flathead.

Being a dedicated Yak and Boat fisherperson for 10+ years, I have not cultivated any land based options along the Georges or Botany Bay and need some advice on good locations. As I said, I need HELP!!

Key criteria:
1. Preference for the north side of the River or Bay (as there is a Lawn Bowls comp on from 12pm at Roselands which some people will want to attend, so allowing for pack up and travel time to Roselands is important); but open to all options.
2. Family friendly, ie not high cliffs or any other dangerous access; relatively good proximity to car park high on the agenda; possible access to parkland or safe swimming for the kids.
3. Enough room to fish up to 20 people in relative comfort.
4. A DECENT chance of scoring some fish (yes despite the inevitable boat traffic at that time of year).

I have been doing the Google Maps thing and come up with some possible locations I am considering but don't really know if the chance of a few fish is high at these spots:

a) Oatley Bay (probably the pleasure grounds)
B) Kogarah Bay - Carrs Brush Park (anyone caught fish land based here)
c) Beach along Riverside Drive adjacent to St George Sailing Club (thinking that passing boat and PWC traffic might be a big issue here).

d) Anywhere else!

I am open to all suggestions. Really the biggest criteria is to be a 30 min drive or less from Roselands Lawn Bowls Club (the Lantern Club) and the reasonable chance of catching some fish. South side of the River or Bay are options and possibly somewhere appropriate along the southern side of the Harbour might also be worth consideration. All options considered!

Thanks in advance.
Peter
