G'day raiders

Today me and Gianni headed out on sydney harbour chasing kings

We arrived at Drummoyne ramp at 7:30am and headed out we went straight to balmoral to collect live yakkas we did that and there were also a few nice kings cruising around but there weren't really feeding we had a really pesky comarand bird stealing out yakkas of the line but we soon got a few and headed out

We went straight to south head where I'd heard a few reports of kings being caught we got there nothing on the sounder we tried for about 10mins with jigs but moved on to north head

When we arrived we saw about 10 boats out the front so we headed over but just as we arrived they all seemed to disappear we asked one guy if there were any kings and he said yes he and caught 4 about 2 minutes so we sent down a yakka on a downrigger I was about to turn around and go back towards the Clift when the line poped and I'm on I thought it was a good fish but it turned out to only be a rat at 57cm it wasn't big but dam was I happy to get one at last

We did a few more passes and they just weren't there so we trolled back in to the harbour. We wanted to try for some blackfish off the boat we collected some cabbage and tried a few spots with no luck so we anchored up near quartintine head.

We used a old frigate I had caught and it worked well we landed a few Trevally and I lost a good flathead when lifting it in the boat and it fell off it was easy 50cm+. I sent a big cube of frigate unweighted and it got taken after a good fight I had a nice shovel nose shark in the boat.

We caught a lot of reef fish and some more Trevally and pinkies and then we headed home

Great day out and finally got a king even know it was tiny I'm still happy to at last to land one hopefully I'll get some more next week

Cheers sydneyfisher12

Good work on the king mate it's always hardest to get that first one. Best advice I could give you.

You need to be in the water a lot earlier, you want to start downrigging as close to first kith as possible. Also if your in the harbour or the headlands yakkas are not worth the space the take up in the live tank, you need to get live squid.

The best kingie fishermen are also the best squidders.

Good work mate keep it up

thanks mate I really do need to be out there earlier to get live squid I'm sure my catch rate on bigger fish will go up. Not my first king I've caught heaps not to many big ones though mostly just rats. I'm good at squiding and should probably put more time into that than getting yakkas

Thanks for the tips
