finin
Gday all, what a fantastic morning to be out. Harbour was glass when we left and has cleared up well after the rain. Headed outside to a lovelly 1.5-2m ground swell from the east. Water still a little green but nice at 21.4 and constant throught the column. Not a great deal of current under half a knot downhill. Still plenty of mowies on the chew all still 40-50 and snapper around a kilo as well. Managed some great fish today. Bait of choice slimies with a squid cocktail. NaClH2OK9
Nice work finin. You did better than me. I could only find rubbish reef fish. Bakers. Pike. Small nanny's. And the sand only produced 2 flatties. Off Stanwell. Looks like we should have headed North.
finin
NaCIH20K9, dont worry we got harassed by nannies as well. Finding flatties have moved in to 40m or less. Only managed 1 tiger fishing all day in 80m. Dont throw your pike if you love whitting you will love pike. Just make sure they are a good size to fillet. You taking the piss there mate or are you for real? With a stench like that I dunno how a pike can taste like whiting?!
james3210
Many people said pike is not good eating. For me personally, the good size one is up there with whiting.
finin
Linc, obviously you have never eaten pike! The smell is on the surface of the fish. Once you have filleted the fish and skinned it there is no smell and they do taste like whitting. As I said make sure it is a good sized pike and worthy of taking a fillet. night_rider
Failing that, Pike is great bait filleted. I personally can't stand the smell and hate that it kind of sticks to everything.. Sounds like a top day finin!
