snatcher
This is my penutimate report from back in 2013 - trying to catch my nemesis - a flathead !!!!! I had been told that there was a chance of catching a flathead at Davison Park so that was the destination for the wife and I for an afternoon fishing session. The wife likes to fish from an even platform so we found a nice grassy stretch and set up there with squid and pilchards for bait. Now when I fish head to head with Dorothy she normally catches more than me and this session was to be no different I set up two spinning rods with running ledgers,Dorothy was to try squid and I was to try pilchard. Dorothy was first in with a tailor. Now Dorothy is not keen on putting bait on the hook and will certainly not take fish off so as usual I got this job I had forgotten how sharp their teeth were and Dorothys first fish drew blood !! Dorothy was next in again with another tailor followed by a bream. Tailor were a new species for Dorothy so she was quite happy. At this point I switched over to squid as the pilchards were getting shredded in seconds.. That was me getting beaten 3-0 and Dorothy smirking away - Girl Power Woop whoop ,eventually I managed to hook a tailor on squid, all fish being carefully returned. Once I had broke my duck I picked up my lure rod and wandered along the bank a short way looking to catch that flathead. I left Dorothy in charge of the two bait rods. I had been told that lures work well for flathead at this spot so i gave it a real good go. Roving up and down the bank I tried all manner of different lures and never got one take I got chatting to an ozzie angler whose kids were catching small mullet in nets. He said that he was going to try later livebaiting with them for flathead. At this point Dorothy shouted over and I could see that there was a good bend in MY ROD !!!!! Her bait had been picked clean so she decided to check MY ROD. Guess what - a decent flathead had decided to hook itself on MY ROD and by the time I got there she had it at the waters edge. Another new species for dorothy I carefully unhooked the fish,a quick picture and back it went. At the end of the session the final score was 6 - 3 to Dorothy. It does not bother me now as I am well used to it Still no flathead for me though and just one trip to go. My final report sees me heading down to Bermagui. mpreston55
Happens all the time. My wife usually outfishes me - no matter what species we are targeting. Doesn't matter if we are using bait or lures either.
